Orioles: Time to put out your oranges and grape jelly

To Date, I have not yet had an Oriole arrive in my yard. (That I have seen)
The main issue would be that I wasn't prepared during their spring flight to attract them. Last summer, I set a reminder on my phone so that I would not lose the opportunity. Below are some photos from our yard and the clever idea to convert a yard ornament into an Oriole feeding station. The other birds did appreciate the grape jelly I offered.
My phone reminder has sounded it's time here in the Pacific Northwest to put out the yummies for our colorful friends.

Reminder: Now is the seasons (Mid Spring, Pacific Northwest) to Get your bait out, for a wonderful summer display.

I will certainly post my Northwest Oriole victory here. And try to catch a photo or two. Appreciate your comments and or pics if they come to your house first
Happy Birding.
I clipped a couple of my favorite sites for you to glean info from:

World Birds: great for feeding and habitat

Birdweb.org kept me up to date on migration and locations in the Pacific northwest.
Another great website that concentrates of Feeding Orioles.
Oriole Zone Map: Looking from a Northwest Perspective
How to Make Oriole FoodOrioles also like the same sugar water your hummingbirds do, with the same ratio of sugar to water. Combine four parts hot water to one part sugar, and mix until the sugar is dissolved.
  • EXPERT TIP: You can buy nectar feeders made just for orioles, but as long as your hummingbird feeder offers perches around the edge, there’s no need for separate feeders unless one species starts chasing off the other.
Feed Orioles Mealworms in SummerOnce nesting season begins, orioles change their food source to insects, which provide more protein and nutritional value. Orioles love caterpillars in the wild. You can offer mealworms as an alternative in your own backyard, presented in an open dish.
  • EXPERT TIP: Use your oriole feeder’s grape jelly dish to offer mealworms once nesting season begins.
Psst—here’s how to identify baby orioles and juvenile orioles.
Do Orioles Eat Suet? Orioles may also visit suet feeders during nesting season. And some backyard birders in southern states report seeing orioles on their suet feeders in winter. Try these orange flavored suet cakes. But generally, you’ll have more luck attracting these birds with oranges, sugar water and jelly. Read More
