Heres the story: we bought this as a gift for my 90 year old mother | its a perfect choice, Squirrel Proof, Easy Fill, Large Hopper - she doesn't have to fill daily. Easy to clean, great value.
Seniors don't do CHANGE! Am I right? She didn't think there was enough room for her feathered friends and so we removed the BRILLIANT FEEDER THAT SOLVED ALL HER PROBLEMS and it now hangs in our birds favorite, high, safe, spot in our Sweet Gum tree, I enjoy watching just out my office window. Yes, it hangs from an ORIGINAL OUT ON A LIMB about 20ft high in the air, our birds love the safety. Squirrels have tried to foil it's yummy's to no result, it works perfectly, They don't bother (chew) the para cord OOAL on this tree. (go figure)
Perky Pet Bird feeder closes feeder holes with over-weight distribution. Our squirrels no longer try. Best feature: Value, 4lbs of seed - large hopper! Sometimes when 4 large birds, Grosbeak or red wing black birds sit on all four foot rests at the same time, it will close.

Metal Mesh the ONLY CHOICE
Why metal mesh only? I have seen birds get there nails caught in the mesh socks which are very difficult to refill. Metal Mesh is long lasting, we have counted up to 11 birds of a feather at one time feeding.

The ONLY Hummingbird feeder model I will use! Please do not be taken in with the beautiful useless glass gift hummingbird feeders you see. Impossible to keep clean and time consuming to fill.
No yellow flowers: they have to be pulled off to clean No red liquid: poisonous to humans and bird! We keep two feeders on hand to rotate during the freezing winter months. Anna Birds stick around year round and need to be feed during the cold season.
Easy to clean and fill: unscrew the bottom wash with brush and small hole brush, fill, hang and enjoy the veiw. Humming bird juice Recipe: 1x4 parts
1 cup C & H Sugar (resists clouding in the heat) 4 cups boiling water, Mix, cool, serve! For extra enjoyment: Window Hummingbird feeder, flush spout model. Works for years until the suction cups wear out.

Would recommend this ⬆︎ feeder for close to the house, a more intimate view location. Flocking Birds will eat you out of house and home at this feeder! Finches, House Finch, Pine Siskin's, Lessor Finch.

Here in Corvallis Oregon we primarily use Squirrel Baffles to protect against the elements. Squirrel Proof Out on a Limb rids us of Squirrel issues in the air! LOL
Thistle Seed is very subject to soaking up moisture, we cover both our Thistle feeders. Our favorite Baffles have no hooks, just a slit in the PVC for the handle to slip through. Great for rain protection. Sorry I couldn't locate the vendor I purchased this model from, even on Google. Mandatory for your Baffles: S hook or open hook underneath for easy connection with all your bird feeders. Large 12 in. Clear Baffle to snuggle your feeder up and under from the elements.

An Exquisite Western Tanager Taking a cooling summer bath.
Running water is a preference to Birds. Daily we are treated with a Dove couple who take turns sitting in the bucket of "Woman at the Well" fountain. Amazed that one of our tiniest backyard feathered friends, our hummers can actually stand on the edge of the bucket in the running water. She, "Woman at the Well" fountain was given to me by my sons, we have four, for Mother's day. Its a treasure that brings more than me joy!
Located in the front of the house. Our Sweet Gum Tree (we have two in the front yard) feathered groupies rely on this water feature and miss it terribly when stored during the winter months.
Snuggly placed under the branches of a 40ft tall Black Locust tree surrounded with climbing Hydrangea, Primroses and Hosta's.

This is what I use: Old fashioned suet feeder, handy with the small suet cakes.
Starlings will gorge themselves when they find it. I feed suet during the winter months and nesting months to keep fat on the Mamma's. |

The main substance of bird seed for us is quality black oil seed I purchase in 40lb bags at our local farm supply store. Helps to do your local research and take advantage of there sales and customer service.
Buying cheap feed, doesn't save money! Birds will only pick through it, leaving you with much waste on the ground and an empty pocket book. Seed found in large chain store are purchased in massive quantities and may sit in warehouse collecting moisture. Especially Thistle Seed. Smell your seed regularly! No waster no mess bird seed is lovelynot on our regular 6 feeders in the yard budget.

Yes I own one: Well made, slows starlings down but not full proof, Starlings will hang upside down to feed.

This little honey (Rat Zapper) is worth its weight in gold! If you feed birds you have rodents. Just add a little peanut butter in a small dixie cup and within moments you will hear a creature meet there demise. Yup, the Zap is like a big bug zapper sound. Mice will move poison to store for the winter months and risk your pets finding it before you do. Our dear friends who have a horse arena love it for there halls and barns.
No longer do you have to worry about about poisons in your yard and around your pets. Not water resistant, we keep ours year round outside hidden under a buffet hutch out on our covered pergola. Easy to see the blinking light (kill) and then dispose the body, without touching it and re-set. Mice and Rats tend to scurry keeping close to walls. Yes BIG Momma Rats can squeeze inside and get zapped!
